Crafting for Profit — Product Photography
This week’s Crafting for Profit will focus on product photography — when you’re selling online, good product photography is essential. Since people can’t pick up what you’re selling, smell it or try it on, you’ve got to tell them about your product through words and photography.
I’ve gone over both descriptions and photography previously in this blog but I felt like it was time to concentrate on the photography a bit more closely — and I’ll be doing that by linking to others, because, to be frank, I’m not very pleased with my product photography.
Here are a couple of great tutorials I’ve found to help with your photography:
10 Etsy sellers share jewelry photography tips. Yes, it’s all about the jewelry, but you can apply these tips to whatever it is you make and sell. Since it’s ten different people, they don’t agree on everything — and I think that’s a good thing too. I’ve certainly found that different things work for different people.
Shoot to Sell: Taking Better Photos for eBay, Etsy & Instructables. A good list of tips, with great example photography too. I like this one.
Tips From A Pro – Etsy Photography Inspiration. This is what she does for a living — who better to learn from?
Shop Makeover Series: Feature Friendly Photos. This one looks more Etsy-specific than it is — it’s talking about how to get your product into features, but the tips work regardless of where you’re selling, and the before-and-after examples are invaluable.
What have you learned about product photography? What would you tell someone who’s just starting out?
