Getting Settled

Been a while since I’ve talked about myself. Well…I’ve been a little busy. But I figure it’s about time for an update.

I am loving living where I am. My roommates are awesome — supportive, understanding, dear friends who I trust with everything. They’re all four of them foodies and excellent cooks — and on Weight Watchers at the same time, so while I’m eating better than I ever have in my Whole. Life., I’ve also lost five pounds.

They’re the sorts of folks who don’t take themselves very seriously…witness Wade, Waya, and a small portion of their hat collection.

Wade, Waya, and part of their hat collection.

…we have a lot of fun.

I have a goodly chunk of the downstairs to myself — it’s a split-level house, so it’s not actually basement, but it is partially underground. But as you can see there’s no shortage of light nonetheless.

Desk + view out of the sliding glass door (sort of)

The view (unavoidably overexposed in the pic, alas) is lovely — a little bit of leaf-strewn back yard, backed by the beginnings of the woods that crown the hill we live on. There are usually birds, frequently squirrels, and often feral cats (Loiosh spends a lot of time in the window trying to be their friend). I haven’t seen either yet, but my roommates have seen a coyote a few times, and a bobcat once. I am even more glad than usual that Loiosh only goes outside when I’m along!

I have a really nice working setup, too. There’s a ginormous bathroom that I use for production — it’s got as much counter space as some kitchens I’ve had, and I suspect it’s been used that way before, though it hasn’t got any appliances. A microwave and sink is all I need, though. And I’m really happy with how I’ve gotten the space arranged.

Stock, ingredients, containers -- all neatly arranged.

Doesn’t that just ease your soul?

…I am perhaps a little unnervingly organized at times.

And how could I possibly finish a post like this without a picture of my dear Loiosh?

  1. I see Loiosh is undercover as an angel. how does he look so regally aloof & cuddly at once? And I love the way your product is shelved – all colorful & neat.
    Come do my house?
Miss you & glad you sound content, productive & all that stuff.

  2. He’s had lots and lots of practice? Come with being a politician I guess.

Good to hear from you my dear — I’m hoping to make it back west sometime next summer, and I’ll see if I can make my way up to Fort Collins. *many hugs*
